1Peter 1:23 – Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
I am born again by the word of God. Every word which proceeds out of the mouth of God contains enough vitality and vitamins in it as to be useful for food. As such Jesus responds to the Accuser that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. The words of the Almighty are sustenance for the recreated Spirit.
Indeed such words must by nature be eternal and empowering. They must in their essence contain life-forces capable of birthing spiritual realities. It is no wonder that we read Peter’s letter to the scattered churches in Galatia, Pontus and so on about the fact that we receive New Birth solely on the basis of the Enduring Word of God.
We were dead in trespasses and sin and through the instrumentality of His Word, God has reached out, chasing us with His love and drawn us out of the abyss of darkness into the kingdom of His dear Son. We are neither saved by the will of the flesh nor the glorious albeit tainted mechanisms of men. We do not owe the salvation of our souls to the ingenuity of preachers or the doggedness of presbytery. Rather to the incorruptible seed of God’s word.
Just as the sperm of a man fertilizes the egg of the female and new life emerges from the hidden cocoon of the womb, God’s Word is that seed which births in us the Incorruptible Spirit which according to Paul in Ephesians is created in righteousness and true holiness. The word ‘Incorruptible’ means ‘Incorruptible’. It can’t be corrupted.
An apple seed will produce apples. An incorruptible seed will produce …………. ?
We are a new breed that has never existed before. God’s manifold wisdom shatters our dogmatic reasoning. At the Resurrection God unveils his greatest work – The Incorruptibles. Hence John remarks that he that is born of God (of God’s word) doesn’t sin for the seed of God is in him. It is fairly certain that like grass all of flesh will wither. When winter comes the highest of man’s glory will fade like the flowers of the field. But there is something that stays anchored in permanence: the Word of God.
It is not just a long list of families, rules and regulations, design parameters (the ark, temple etc). Rather it is the unveiling of an eternal mystery: Christ in men – the hope of glory. This is the gospel. We are born of God and we have overcome the world. It is from this understanding that the Christian life is lived. Hope is the anchor of our souls. It is good for your mind to stay rooted and established, but you can only attain this when it is rooted on the premise that your Spirit is created perfect in Christ.
Cloven tongues of fire heralded the age of the Spirit and we still feel its effect till this day. Indeed while the world system may mark its eras off as jet age, information age and the likes, we as Incorruptibles see this dispensation as the Church age, the age of the Spirit. He that is joined to Christ is one Spirit. In essence we are indistinguishable from Christ. Jesus never called his disciples christians and we are not told that Yahweh revealed this to the Antioch citizenry.
However from their interactions with the disciples there are a consciousness of Christ that so emanated from the early believers that man himself had to admit “surely they walked with Christ”. This is what happens when our minds are tuned to the reality that in Christ everything holds together. This is what it means to operate in the Name of Jesus. To identify absolutely with what the Name entails.
Know you not what manner of Spirit you have? This was the question Jesus threw at his disciples when they suggested hosting a “barbecue” just like Elijah. This is the question I ask you. Are you a Christian in name alone? Do you yet walk as one who is void of the Life of Christ? Are you one who is outside looking in, scoffing and mocking, just because you don’t believe? To you are the world’s problems traceable to a loony Jew who claimed to be God in flesh?
Don’t worry. God’s Word is powerful enough to transform you. The Word of God is the seed of Existence both physical and spiritual. All you need to do is accept that you have been accepted in the Beloved. To repent means to change your mind. It is never too late to get it right.
Can we neglect so great a salvation that comes to us incorruptible, that comes to us without demands save that we believe?
Will you believe today?
