Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson went on a camping trip. As they lay down for the night, the fire dwindling nearby, Holmes said: “Watson, look up and tell me what you see”.
Watson said “I see a fantastic panorama of countless of stars”.
Holmes: “And what does that tell you?”
Watson: “Astronomically, it suggests to me that if there are billions of other galaxies that have roughly similar stellar population densities as represented by my view, that, potentially, trillions of planets may be associated with such a galactic and, therefore, stellar population. Allowing for similar chemical distribution throughout the cosmos it may be reasonably implied that life-and possibly intelligent life-may well fill the universe.
Also, being a believer, theologically, it tells me that the vastness of space may be yet another suggestion of the greatness of God and that we are small and insignificant.
Meteorologically, the blackness of the sky and the crispness of the stellar images tells me that there is low humidity and stable air and therefore we are most likely to enjoy a beautiful day tomorrow.
Why? – What does it tell you, Mr. Holmes?”
Holmes: “you idiot! … Someone stole our tent”.
It is easy to be profound in an answer and miss the larger point. Pilate stood face to face with the very essence with Truth and asked the most important question ever – a question that plagues the minds of philosopher and pastor alike – and while he (Pilate) flirted with the idea of discovering the answer, like a petulant teenager he ran away and missed out on meeting the Lord.
How do we get to the point where we are so aware of the galaxies and stars that we are blinded to the throbbing hearts of our brothers and our sisters’ scars? to the unbelieving Christians are seen as the madman running into the marketplace with a lantern in broad daylight searching for a lost god.
Our stupidity as humans is like a sponge that attempts to wipe away the horizon. Mankind’s denial of God is just as idiotic as the blind man who seeks to claw out the sun with his fingers. Do you not realize how godless our world has become? Where once you could speak openly of God in the workplace, Christ’s name has become taboo in many businesses. What happened to our world? Why the change?
First dentistry was painless;
Then bicycles were chainless
And carriages were horseless
And many laws, enforceless.
Next, cookery was fireless,
Telegraphy was wireless,
Soon oranges were seedless,
The putting green was weedless,
The college boy hatless,
The proper diet, fatless,
Now motor roads are dustless,
The latest steel is rustless,
Our tennis courts are sodless,
Our new religions, godless.

In the last days the love of many will wax cold as “eba” left in the pot for weeks. Mankind has plumbed the depths of the sea, we have flown to majestic heights in architecture, literature and science. We are on the frontiers of a whole new world! but our magic carpet is tattered and torn.
The greatest tragedy is that we seek to create legislation against our very corrupt nature. Please understand that Christ came to deliver us. This deliverance is the restoration of relationship. This deliverance is the forgiveness of sin. We deny Christ at our own peril. The essence of His coming was the birthing of Light. This is Truth.
It is that simple.
