Just Because

I stood before the courts,
Before the endless stares of my accusers.
They sat ready to scorn and mock,
Fingers pointed, fierce and with no love.
I stood without an attorney,
Who would plead on my behalf.
I stood as guilty as the sky is blue,
I had been selfish,  greed was my hue.
They looked menacing,  ready to devour,
My sins stacked high from ceiling to floor.
I stood alone,  none came to aid me,
All my wealth and glory,  all had failed me.
Friends and family were far away,
Death and hell would have their day.

They pointed to a cup that hosted my grief,
My days as a rapist,  a liar,  a thief.
They said,  drink up you insolent wimp,
They threatened me with death’s fiery whip.

But Mercy said No.

For one as the Son of Man drew near,
Bruised and Broken,  he walked in without fear..
His eyes burned bright with love for me,
I knew He was here to set me free.
The terrorists were terrorised by his presence,
For surely they would have prevailed in his absence,
He held me close though I was obscene,
And whispered to me let me handle this.

With quivering lips and a failing heart,
I asked why?
He replied…

Just because I am He who loves without condition.
Just because I am He who gives life without  restriction.
Just because I am He who formed you with my hands..
Just because I have you in the centre of my plans.
Just because you do not have to attain glory by your strength.
Just because I answer you not by reason of your prayers,
their volume or their length.
Just because I am Love and I love you dearly,
Just because I am Life and the Light you need to see clearly.
Just because your good can never outweigh your bad.
Just because your good living will never bring you to nirvana.
Just because all things have been given into my hand..
Just because I long to love you and never see you sad..

HE turned.
And picked the cup in the centre of the court.  Brimming with filth and sheer disgust.
He emptied it all before keeling over.
And thus ended the life of my
One minute lover.

Suddenly I heard a voice.

Just because I am He who swallowed death in victory,
Just because I am He who has washed away your iniquity
Just because I am He who makes for you a  way.
Just because I am He who ushers you into Zion’s day.

He was alive.
He couldn’t die.
The chains of sin
Couldn’t hold him down.
I was set free.
I was justified.
Just because Love
Couldn’t but Love me.

Petroleum engineer? Yup. But I love writing as much as I love solving complex reservoir engineering problems. Watch out for poetry. Still trying to soar the heights of prose tho' Stay tuned dearies.
