Jesus: The Covenant

Act One, Scene One Matthew {1:1} The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. No matter how you look at it God is a God of covenants. In keeping with His nature He establishes covenants with the sons of me (Noah, Abraham, Moses, David etc). In David and Abraham we have the two vital covenants: The Covenant of Kings and the Covenant of Fathers. Jesus takes his reference point from these two covenants. The Covenant of Fathers and Sons Abraham was given a promise. That his seed (sons) would outnumber the stars and the sand. It was a covenant that covered the heavens (stars) and earth (sand). It was both terrestrial and celestial in nature. God promised to bless his descendants and make them His own special people – in return, Abraham was to remain faithful to God and to serve as a channel through which God’s blessings could flow to the rest

STAND

[The Book of Joel] What the locust swarm has left the great locusts have eaten; what the great locusts have left the young locusts have eaten; what the young locusts have left other locusts have eaten. Yesterday I lit a candle and hid it under my bed – National Association of Fools Carefully tear away the tinfoil of pretence and stare into the blackness that is life. Do you realize that many people are tottering on the edge of despair? Most people who walk the streets are merely zombies with manicured nails and sharply pressed attires. There is no life in us anymore. We try to do it ourselves. We hop from seminar to spa, from hospital to horoscopes. We will try anything and everything in an effort to salvage a bit of sanity. Total annihilation is the word for the day. Life takes on the appearance of a post-apocalyptic landscape without the green leaf of hope. The swarming locusts

This Simple Gospel

<We are constantly falling short. We are always almost or completely at odds with God. Sin’s effect works in us a death that medicine cannot cure, that engineering cannot reverse, that philosophy cannot unravel. We are lost in lust, feet fixed in fear and with hearts ravaged with the fiery darts of the evil one. Is there hope for man’s child? Is there an elixir somewhere which he can take to stop this entropy, to quench this decay? For all have sinned and fallen short of the mark. We are scattered, our tongues in variance, our voices in dissent. We each work and walk in our own way, in the way that seems right to us. Sin drives us, his whip tears at us. Yet we move, blinded by worldly desires. We are constantly falling short. At Sinai the Almighty spoke. He that is named I AM penned his laws in stone. Yet sin’s grip tightened. We grew pale and

CALL TO KINGSHIP

[COMMENTARY ON ISAIAH 52:2] Shake off your dust; rise up, sit enthroned, Jerusalem. Free yourself from the chains on your neck, Daughter Zion, now a captive Set yourself free. This is indicative of the terrible responsibility that faces the believer. There is a sense that God is intimately aware OF our weakness – He knows that we are held captive. The question is what captivates us? Paul declares that we are alienated and made enemies in our minds. The walls that hold us back are firmly rooted in our heads, between our two ears. We have allowed the pernicious principles of the prince of perdition to render us useless. We feed fat on a diet of death and despair, ignoring the vast vista of virtues and victory. Daily as we trudge along life, we are doused with dust. Our minds are tainted with wrong philosophies and beliefs. What do we do? We need to renew our minds constantly [Romans 12:1-2].
